About Me
My name is Sau Tham. I am a Dual Nephrology and Intensive Care Medicine Specialist Registrar with a passion for transforming the future of renal care.
My medical journey began at Imperial College London, where I earned my MBBS and BSc in Medical Science.
I enjoy intellectual challenges and problem solving. Naturally, I was drawn to Nephrology and Intensive Care medicine where patients have complex acute and chronic issues. Over the years, I have gained extensive experience working in medical and surgical wards, anesthesia, emergency departments, and intensive care units across the South East and West of Scotland. My role encompasses a wide spectrum of responsibilities from direct patient care to educating medical professionals through lectures, advanced life support simulation training and ultrasound techniques.
As a Renal physician, I have seen firsthand the limitations and challenges faced by patients with end-stage renal disease. The current treatment options, such as dialysis and kidney transplants, while life-saving, are fraught with complications, lifestyle disruptions, and limited availability. This has fueled my commitment to innovate and push the boundaries of what is possible in renal medicine.
My vision is realise a future with implantable synthetic kidney that provides continuous, 24/7 dialysis, without the need for external access or frequent hospital visits.
I look forward to connecting with scientists, researchers, engineers, and innovators who share my passion for this future.
